The thing that matters is that these last reptiles had level, butterfly-like wings of skin, while Longisquama had dainty, slender crest extending away from its vertebrae, the specific direction of which is a proceeding with puzzle. Its conceivable that these plume like structures stretched out from side to side and gave Longisquama some lift when it hopped from branch to part of high trees, or they may have stuck straight up and served a carefully enlivening capacity, presumably identified with sexual determination. Obviously, it hasnt got away from the notification of researchers that Longisquamas ornamentations appear to have halted barely shy of being authentic plumes. A little bunch of scientistss have seized on this likeness to suggest that Longisquama may have been tribal to birdswhich would either cause this animal (which is probably named a diapsid reptile) to be renamed as an early dinosaur or archosaur, or overturn built up thought altogether and follow current fowls back to a dark group of floating reptiles. Until increasingly fossil proof is found, however, the current hypothesis (that winged animals developed from feathered theropod dinosaurs) seems, by all accounts, to be sheltered! ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-40476933004333536832020-08-22T22:13:00.001-07:002020-08-22T22:13:16.763-07:00Advanced Financial Reporting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 wordsProgressed Financial Reporting - Essay Example Another method of accomplishing development is through Merger and Acquisition (truncated as M&A). The previous is likewise known is natural development where the firm uses its own assets (held income, stores and overflow, or value capital) for financing development. The later is otherwise called inorganic development where the acquirer firm purchases the advantages and liabilities of the target(s) as on a given date (Sherman, 2010, p.1). Along these lines, M&A are outside development methodology that picks up prominence for the most part because of globalization. It has become a significant a significant path for firms to grow their item portfolios and increasing new markets. M&A additionally encourages the firmââ¬â¢s to gain information, most recent innovation and improved administration capacities. What's more, M&A has been seen as very effective for explicit divisions like pharmaceuticals where broad Research and Developments are required. Research and developme nt doesn't just require gigantic capital venture yet in addition requires information in significant territories with the goal that the objective item stays capable on worldwide scale (Kumar and Yadav, 2005, pp.51-63). The primary thought process in any M&A is to encounter a cooperative energy in existing tasks just as gainfulness of the organizations. Notwithstanding, it is additionally critical to take note of that not the sum total of what M&A have been effective previously and hence some neglected to expand esteems prompting immense capital misfortunes (Frensch, 2007, pp.48-49). In July 2013, TD Travel of Cheshire gained Hotel scene, the lodging booking organization of Bristol and subsequently made another substance by rebranding called Corporate Travel International. The joined element is required to help incomes for both the organizations to more than ?100 million and furthermore utilize in excess of 160 staff across various units. Concerning the above late procurement , the goal of this examination is to talk about with reasons regarding why such business mix has occurred and furthermore clarify the likely results or issues that the organizations may look in future. Merger and Acquisition Strategy As on July 12, 2013, TD Travel finished the securing of Hotel Scene. The acquirer for this situation is TD Travel where as the obtained is Hotel scene. The arrangement was account and sponsored by private value venture firm LDC. The procurement is relied upon to make one of the biggest and free corporate travel and booking operator element of UK. The organizations have chosen to re-brand the joined business into Corporate Travel International. It is likewise expected that such M&A will make a collaboration that can help the incomes of the new consolidated business substance of more than ?100 million. The organizations are likewise hoping to utilize more than 160 staffs in various branches situated across London, Liverpool, Wilmslow, Bristol, and Hul l. From the public statement of the organization it was discovered that the chief of LDC is extremely hopeful about the M&A and has suggested the arrangement. He likewise accepts that the supervisory crew of TD Travel is extremely experienced and propelled and along these lines holds monstrous potential to take the new element to the following degree of animating development direction. With respect to financing of the arrangement, a bundle of working capital and senior obligation offices was given by Lloyds Banking Groupââ¬â¢s Finance and Acquisition group. The arrangement was essentially driven by Relationship Director of TD Travel, Richard Townsend. The obligations of lead chief and warning of the arrangement was given to BDO LLP which is likewise one of the most rumored Accountancy and Business ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-62225394018805028202020-08-22T13:20:00.001-07:002020-08-22T13:20:25.338-07:00The Hardest SAT Reading Questions EverThe Hardest SAT Reading Questions Ever SAT/ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips In case you're focusing on a truly elevated SAT score, you'll have to figure out how to beat the most troublesome inquiries on each segment of the test. Here, Iââ¬â¢ll experience a couple of the most troublesome inquiries Iââ¬â¢ve seen on the SAT Critical Reading segment and how to settle them. Why precisely would they say they are so difficult? How would you tackle them? How well will you do? Challenge yourself for that top score. Question Type 1: Sentence Completion Sentence finishing questions are intense in light of the fact that you canââ¬â¢t consistently depend on setting to address the inquiry in the event that you donââ¬â¢t know the word. The hardest sentence fruition questions remember troublesome jargon for both the sentence itself and the appropriate response decisions, so youââ¬â¢re stuck in a Catch-22.If you canââ¬â¢t be certain what the sentence is requesting, youââ¬â¢re going to make some unpleasant memories picking the correct word or in any event, getting it. Hereââ¬â¢s a solitary clear sentence consummation question that I believe is one of the hardest on the freely accessible SAT practice tests: Fred regularly utilized ___________ to accomplish his expert objectives, despite the fact that such cunning trick estranged his partners. A. chicaneryB. diligenceC. bombastD. disputationE. accord This inquiry remembers troublesome jargon for both the sentence (guileful, trick, estranged) and the decisions (practically all of them). You can comprehend from the sentence that the word youââ¬â¢re searching for is an equivalent for ââ¬Å"artful subterfugeâ⬠, yet I'm not catching That's meaning? What's more, regardless of whether you do recognize what it implies, the words in the appropriate response decisions are additionally truly elevated level; you may comprehend what constancy and accord mean, yet the other three words are increasingly troublesome. So how might you understand this inquiry? Initially, letââ¬â¢s see what we can get from the sentence.Even in the event that you donââ¬â¢t comprehend what ââ¬Å"artful subterfugeâ⬠implies, it must be something negative since it ââ¬Å"alienated his colleaguesâ⬠. On the off chance that you don't have a clue what estranged signifies, you may have the option to surmise it from separating: distanced has outsider in it, so it would seem that it signifies to make outsider, which is presumably not something to be thankful for. Youââ¬â¢re searching for an answer decision with a negative connotation. This Fred fellow is obviously awful news. You can likewise gather that ââ¬Å"artfulâ⬠implies something like ââ¬Å"craftyâ⬠, or for this situation (with the negative undertone), ââ¬Å"underhandedâ⬠.You need a word that implies an unscrupulous strategy for accomplishing objectives. Alright, presently we will take a gander at the appropriate response decisions. Steadiness and accord are the two words you most likely know, and neither of them is negative, so you can cross those out. This is the place it gets extremely troublesome - the three decisions that are left are words you probably won't know. Controversy seems like a question. Thatââ¬â¢s truly negative, yet it doesnââ¬â¢t truly have anything to do with being precarious or mischievous. Pomposity seems like something that would be boisterous or huge, not guileful or precarious, yet you probably won't be certain. Dishonesty could be correct. It has a similar completion as ââ¬Å"trickeryâ⬠, and it sounds lighter than pomposity (in that bomb isn't in it). It appears as though we can limit it down to bluster or sophistry. Dishonesty showed up more probable, so An is the appropriate response weââ¬â¢re going to pick (and the correct answer!). This inquiry may appear to be unimaginable on the test on the off chance that you donââ¬â¢t know the words, yet on the off chance that you make some keen deductions about the sentence and the implications of the appropriate response decisions, you despite everything have a decent shot of noting effectively without knowing any accurate definitions. It is anything but a slam dunk (our suppositions about dishonesty above were quite shaky regardless of whether they ended up being correct) (which they did), however you generally have a decent possibility on these inquiries on the off chance that you can limit your answer down to two or three likely decisions. Fred. Presently letââ¬â¢s take a gander at an extremely hard twofold clear sentence fruition question: Preferring economy of articulation recorded as a hard copy, the educator asked understudies toward a _____ instead of a ______ exposition style. A. spare...ornateB. terse...opinionatedC. personal...academicD. baroque...embellishedE. repetitive...intricate This isn't as troublesome in the jargon office, however it has confounding answer decisions and sentence stating that requires a significant level comprehension of articulations. How would we settle this inquiry? We know from the expression ââ¬Å"rather thanâ⬠that the two words we use to fill in the spaces must be alternate extremes - thatââ¬â¢s important! The educator favors ââ¬Å"economy of expressionâ⬠, so the primary word will mirror this sort of composing style, while the subsequent will be its inverse. What does ââ¬Å"economy of expressionâ⬠mean? We can surmise from what we think about ââ¬Å"economyâ⬠that it presumably implies something like not being inefficient with words. So the primary word ought to depict an effective composing style and the subsequent word ought to portray a progressively extravagant one. Presently for the appropriate response decisions - I think this is the extremely crucial step of this specific question. You need to recollect that the two words MUST FIT EXACTLY. To begin with, letââ¬â¢s take a gander at all the principal words in the appropriate response decisions and see which ones coordinate with our assurance of what the main word must describe.Spare does, brief basically does, well not secure with elaborate, save that one for now.Personal and tedious are certainly off-base, so we can cross out decisions C and E. It doesn't make a difference what the subsequent word is in the event that we realize the first isn't right. We should proceed onward to the second words in decisions A, B, and D. A. spare...ornateB. terse...opinionatedC. personal...academicD. baroque...embellishedE. repetitive...intricate Extra and fancy are contrary energies, so An appears to work pretty well.Terse and stubborn donââ¬â¢t cooperate, in light of the fact that obstinate is unquestionably not something contrary to brisk, so we can cross out decision B.Baroque and decorated (decision D) is an extreme one. Decorated certainly fills in as something contrary to what the educator needs, yet we're as yet not absolutely sure what rococo methods. So itââ¬â¢s either An or D. Now, we realize that An appears to work, so we ought to go with that decision regardless of whether we don't know about D.As it turns out, elaborate alludes to a style described by resplendent detail (which it to state, not effective), so An is in actuality the right answer! With this inquiry, we can perceive that it is so critical to confirm that the two pieces of a two section answer fit the sentence. Indeed, even with troublesome twofold clear sentence finish questions, on the off chance that you separate the appropriate responses cautiously you can show up at the right decision. Rococo workmanship: confirmation that individuals had an excessive amount of leisure time before the appearance of current innovation Question Type 2: Passage-Based Presently letââ¬â¢s take a gander at the absolute hardest section based understanding inquiries. Iââ¬â¢ll separate them by classification. Creator Technique Writer strategy questions ask about for what valid reason the writer of the section utilized a specific accentuation or gadget in their writing. These questions can be troublesome on the grounds that you have to have a profound comprehension of the authorââ¬â¢s perspective and how unique composing strategies work to create contentions. Hereââ¬â¢s one of the most troublesome creator procedure addresses I have seen: In lines 27-30, the creator utilizes regular a few times so as to: A. uncover the entertainers' dissatisfaction with current theatersB. vilify the present-day treatment of the artsC. spoof the innovative endeavors of contemporary artistsD. accentuate the ludicrousness of a simply stylish way to deal with the artsE. overstate the significance of custom in expressions of the human experience The inquiry alludes to these lines in the section: The pattern toward protection is huge not just in light of the fact that it is sparing and reestablishing some better structures that are tributes than the inventive accomplishments of different occasions, yet in addition since it is kicking the standard way of thinking of the regular force structure that gives the support to traditional culture habitats to house expressions of the human experience. I think this inquiry is so troublesome in light of the fact that it requires an unmistakable and nuanced comprehension of the authorââ¬â¢s objectives and procedure. It additionally gives answer decisions that are generally speaking really befuddling. Letââ¬â¢s make sense of how to understand it! To start with, we have to comprehend the inquiry. For what reason does the creator utilize the word ââ¬Å"conventionalâ⬠so often in this paragraph?Whatââ¬â¢s the perspective she is attempting to help? Obviously she is genius conservation of memorable engineering (she depicts the structures that safeguarding spares as unrivaled and tributes to the innovative accomplishments of different occasions, which are both beneficial things), and traditional is being utilized adversely to portray the frameworks set up that would destroy these social monuments. She is attempting to stress how significant it isn't to permit the ââ¬Å"conventionalâ⬠thoughts, frameworks, and focuses to totally assume control over expressions of the human experience. Presently letââ¬â¢s take a gander at the appropriate responses, making sure to be extremely demanding and explicit about killing any answers that are even somewhat off-base! Decision A:reveal the performersââ¬â¢ dissatisfaction with current theaters Valid, the stating does pass on a specific dissatisfaction, however is it used to uncover the performersââ¬â¢ disappointment? Is it explicitly about present day theaters? Probably not. This answer makes itself excessively explicit by referencing entertainers and current theaters, so itââ¬â¢s gotta not be right. Decision B:disparage the present-day treatment of expressions of the human experience This appears to be right. ââ¬Å"Conventionalâ⬠is unquestionably being utilized as an affront (to ââ¬Å"disparageâ⬠something). And it's offending the perspectives and structures that encompass contemporary treatment of expressions of the human experience in open life. This oneââ¬â¢s a champ! Decision C:parody the innovative endeavors of contemporary ar ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-63790694187389061742020-08-21T19:55:00.001-07:002020-08-21T19:55:16.930-07:00Global Warming - Causes, Impacts, the Way Ahead EssayA dangerous atmospheric devation - Causes, Impacts, the Way Ahead - Essay Example The impacts of a dangerous atmospheric devation are as of now clear the same number of the effects are unfavorably experienced by the regular man nowadays. For example, there have been remarkable varieties in the climatic examples all around the world. In last couples of decades, the occurrence of climatic calamities like floods, typhoons, avalanches and dry seasons turned out to be increasingly more successive at various pieces of the world. There is far reaching accord in mainstream researchers that main impetus behind climatic changes can be credited to twentieth century humansââ¬â¢ exercises that upset the regular environmental and the natural parity and in the end prompts environmental change and a worldwide temperature alteration. The target of this simple is to examinations the causes and effects of an Earth-wide temperature boost. The only remaining century mechanical upset extraordinarily affected worldwide surface temperatures by raising the centralization of ozone depleting substances in the climate and henceforth changing the groupings of mist concentrates and ozone layer. These progressions altered the land front of earthââ¬â¢s surface and it changed the radiative equalization overseeing the earth on different timescales and at different spatial scales. Different examinations show that in most recent 100 years the normal temperature of the air close earthââ¬â¢s surface has ascended by 1.3 Fahrenheit (Venkataramanan and Smitha, 2011). The expansion in temperature results different changes in the physical arrangement of earth. For example, it quickens the liquefying of icy masses and shafts ice that raises the ocean level. The ascent in ocean level would have destroying impacts as it would lower countless islands like the Maldives laying at extremely low ocean level and consequently a huge number of h uman lives would be in danger. Additionally, the ascent in worldwide temperature changes the breeze design over the globe. It would bring about colder winters in Europe and more downpour in West Africa. Then again, there would be an intense shortage of downpour in focal Africa (Venkataramanan and Smitha, 2011).â ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-20258467374426336912020-08-21T11:02:00.001-07:002020-08-21T11:02:22.050-07:00EU Subsisdies Order Essay Example for FreeEU Subsisdies Order Essay 1.â â â â â Introduction The European Union presented the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) during the 1950s, which was planned for empowering better efficiency in the natural pecking order to guarantee that buyers had a steady flexibly of moderate nourishment and that the EU had a suitable horticultural area. This was basic in post WW2 Western Europe, where social orders had been harmed by long stretches of war and the agrarian division injured. The CAP in the pre 1990s period offered appropriations and ensured costs to ranchers by having the EU purchase farming items at whatever point the costs fell beneath indicated bolster levels, so as to give a creation motivating force to nourishment items. This strategy was sponsored by duties which balance the contrast among European and world rural costs so as to keep the CAP from attracting enormous amounts of imports. Moreover, money related help for cultivating venture was given to encourage the rebuilding of cultivating, guaranteeing that ranches created in size, the executives and innovation, improving proficiency and profitability. (Leguen de Lacroix, 2004) Krugman composes that since the 1970s, the help costs set by the European Union was high to the point that Europe which would have been a shipper of most rural items under facilitated commerce, was delivering more rural items than purchasers were happy to purchase. This brought about the EU being committed to purchase and store gigantic amounts of nourishment, and at the 1985, European countries had put away 780,000 tons of meat, 1.2 million tons of margarine and 12 million tons of wheat. This constrained the EU to receive an arrangement of sponsoring agrarian imports to discard this overflow stock and creation, so as to maintain a strategic distance from boundless development in stores. (Krugman and Obstfeld, 2006) He further records the CAP as costing European citizens a faltering $50 billion of every 2002, which does exclude the aberrant expenses to nourishment buyers because of more significant expenses. Government sponsorships to European ranchers were likewise equivalent to around 36 percent of the estimation of homestead yield, double the U.S figure. The EU (European Trade) Commission reported that it would eliminate all fare endowments right now allowed to exporters in the European Union in 18 December 2005. In this paper, the potential impacts of this eliminating of fare endowments will be talked about and investigated, together with the approach suggestions and fitting strategy changes that ought to be made alongside the eliminating of fare sponsorships. A Theory of Export Subsidies Here a hypothesis of fare endowments will be talked about inside the field of worldwide financial aspects, so as to break down the impacts of fare appropriations in principle on exchange and economies, just as to build a system from which the eliminating of the EU send out sponsorships can be examined. The utilization of a fare appropriation is much the same as some other endowment â⬠the exporters get a more significant expense (by the measure of the sponsorship) than what is really paid by the remote buyer. Given this cost possible for the sent out great, maker of the fare great being referred to won't sell in the household showcase at any lower cost, along these lines, expecting that buyers are kept from purchasing from outside providers at lower world costs, the residential value confronting the two makers and customers is driven up by the appropriation. This discloses to us that the costs looked by the purchaser of agrarian items inside the European Union are falsely swelled using send out sponsorships. The utilization of fare endowments to enormous and little nations is diverse in principle. We believe the EU to be a ââ¬Å"large countryâ⬠with the ability to impact world costs (of the fare great). For this situation, the expansion achieved by the sponsorship brings about a fall on the planet cost of the fare great â⬠which brings about a disintegration in the EUââ¬â¢s expressions of exchange. In the sending out nation, buyers are harmed because of the raise in costs, makers gain, and the administration loses in light of the fact that it must exhaust cash on the appropriation. Consequently a fare endowment should consistently lessen monetary government assistance, and will do as such to a bigger degree the bigger is the nation since this will bring about a more noteworthy unfavorable terms of exchange impact. Evacuation of the EU Export Subsidy One of the fundamental reactions of the EU CAP is the charge of ââ¬Å"dumpingâ⬠, or the sending out of merchandise at costs far beneath the expense of creation, which Oxfarm claims discourages and destabilizes markets for non-dying down exporters, particularly those in the creating scene. It recommends that the EU send out sponsorships ought to be expelled with the goal that such practices would not be so predominant. Be that as it may, the EU send out sponsorships can't be disposed of without changing rural approaches which support and lift creation. Expulsion of fare appropriations without horticultural approach change would cause a development of unmanageable supplies of hamburger, coarse grains and dairy items, which is expensive to the Government. The Government would likewise bring about immense misfortunes if these stocks must be discarded on the household advertise. Consequently the expulsion of fare appropriations would need to be joined by farming change, which could take numerous structures. A model would be the execution of creation control through severe creation quantities to wipe out overflow creation because of the fare endowment, stricter than those that as of now exist through the CAP. Another arrangement choice is lessen bolster costs. The impacts of this is increment residential utilization because of the scaled down costs buyer need to pay in the local market, just as a decrease in local horticultural creation because of the lower value makers get. Consequently the requirement for trade endowments would decrease, as the potential for a development of agrarian stock would be diminished. As indicated by an examination by Stout, Leetmaa and Normile, the end of EU bolster costs, with taxes to ensure agrarian items against import rivalry staying set up, the biggest effect inside the EU would happen in the journal, coarse grain and hamburger markets. This is normal since these parts are the place the most significant levels of value support are found, and for these farming items, as local costs fall, creation and consequently sends out decay accordingly. This decrease in EU fares would have the impact of driving up world costs, expanding assembly between beforehand misshaped EU costs and world costs. A similar report referenced above additionally considered the situation in which the levies which shields the horticultural markets from import rivalry are killed. Such an approach activity would permit the EU to import agrarian products at the world costs, thus driving down the residential EU costs of items, which are presently ensured by substantial taxes. The effect of tax end would be felt the hardest in the business sectors where import duties are the most noteworthy, for instance, the sugar, dairy, hamburger, corn and rice markets. As per another investigation by the OECD, the end of fare sponsorships has significant ramifications for a great part of the EU dairy and domesticated animals item advertises. As broke down already, the evacuation of fare endowments would prompt falling household costs, creation and henceforth sends out, just as higher local utilization of these products. The examination by OECD likewise reports that unsubsidized sends out ascent to supplant the sponsored trades, as EU residential cost falls and the world cost increments. The OECD composes that the result of fare sponsorship end for a product is an expansion on the planet cost of a similar item, as called attention to before. Here the OECD does an increasingly comprehensive examination into this impact, reasoning that the greatness of this impact on world costs relies upon the significance of financed sends out comparative with the absolute volume of exchange, and may be counterbalanced by cross-ware impacts. There impacts are delineated in the graph underneath: The OECD likewise takes note of that EU meat sends out are little comparative with world sums and that not the entirety of its fare are financed. Anyway the EU dairy item send out market is an alternate story, bargaining an a lot bigger portion of world markets, with most fares being financed. Subsequently the biggest effects would be felt in the journal markets, with world dairy costs expanding as sponsored trades are disposed of. At long last, the OECD suggests that the fitting arrangement reaction together with a fare sponsorship disposal, which has the least market contorting outcomes, is to totally surrender value underpins, utilizing send out appropriation ends as a chance to achieve such a point. This is in concurrence with the discoveries by Stout, Leetmaa and Normile. Transmission normally takes place through media.à One of the model which best describes the transmission of data is the TCP/IP model. It contains four layers. The first one is the network interface layer which is responsible for receiving and placing TCP/IP packets on the network. The second layer is the Internet layer. It performs the routing, packaging and addressing functions of a network.à It consists of the IP, ICMP, ARP and IGMP protocols. The third layer is transport layer. It is responsible for the sending of packets in the network. It mainly consists of the TCP and UDP protocols. TCP is used to provide a one to one reliable connection. UDP is used to provide one to one or one to many unreliable communications. The last layer is known as the application layer. Its main function is to facilitate layer to layer access.à It also facilitates the exchange of information. It contains protocols such as SMTP which is used for mail messages and attachments.à Also, there is the HTTP protocol which is used in transferring files that make up web pages or websites. (Norstedt.B, 1984) Communication begins at the network interface layer. In the second layer, data encapsulation occurs. Data encapsulation is when data is added to the packet header. The third layer involves setting up of a secure connection then in the last layer the packets are delivered. Network service is an application that provides communication, manipulation, presentation and data storage and is mostly implemented through a peer to peer or client server architecture. One example is the domain name system (DNS) which is used to translate domain names to IP addresses. Another example is the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) which is used to give network configuration information to network hosts. TCP/IP network services commonly use the port numbers which are assigned by the Internet technical governance. The common port number for web based servers is 80à while for email is 25. TCP and UDP protocols are vastly used. However, it is important to note that UDP is more prone to network congestion hence users of this protocol are advised to be careful. TCP, on the other hand, is largely reliable and is used in transferring files that require complete accuracy. (Norstedt.B, 1984) Security is very paramount when it comes to networks. Organizations always invest heavily in security so as to ensure no data loss of any kind happens. There are many techniques used by various organizations. One of them is access control. It is important to know the devices and users that are accessing the network. Use of antivirus and antimalware is also very common. Malicious software and viruses can destroy everything that is linked by the network. Firewalls are also very effective in ensuring security is achieved. Intrusion prevention system cover the whole network. They are designed to block attacks. (Li.M, Lou.W., and Ren, K, 2010, 17) It is important to note that wireless networks are not very safe as compared to wired networks. A server is a computer program that provides assistance to the other computer programs. A server is essential in linking up various computer programs so that they can perform the task that has been requested of them. Examples of servers are;à File server- stores network users` data files. Communication server- handles many common communication functions for the network, such as e-mail, fax, remote access, firewall or internet services. Application server-shares network-enabled versions of common application software and eliminates the need for software to be installed on each workstation. Database server- manages common databases for the network, handling all data storage, database management and requests for data. Domain server- authenticates and authorizes computers and users to access resources within the logical domain. (Li.M, Lou.W., and Ren, K, 2010, 17) There are two types of the server architecture. One is called the event based and the other one is called the thread based. The thread based approach looks at every incoming connection with its thread. It isolates requests and hides concurrency. The event-based model depends on asynchronous I/O operations and high-performance event notifiers. There is an event queue followed by an event log then event collectors and finally the reply queue. Security challenges Managing access to resources (physical and logical) Managing access to resources is very challenging especially in large organizations. Martha Lee ENG 92W 4/13/10 In Annie John, the lasting effects of Antiguaââ¬â¢s colonization are reflected through Kincaid paralleling her own experiences with those of the West Indian colonies where she has lived. In, Columbus in Chains, the issues of Antiguan colonialism and postcolonial culture are apparent in the text, beginning with Annieââ¬â¢s discussion of the history of slavery in Antigua through Ruth. ââ¬Å"I could see how Ruth felt from looking at her face. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Colonization in Annie John" essay for you Create order Her ancestors had been the masters, while ours had been the salves. She had such a lot to be ashamed of, and by being with us e very day she was always being remindedâ⬠(Kincaid 76). Annie believes that Ruth possesses an innate sense of guilt because black people were once enslaved by white and everyone knew. She pities Ruth knowing that she knows less about the West Indies than them. Through the interaction of these two girls, Kincaid provides an individualized perspective upon the dynamics of life in a colonial state. Annie also briefly comments on the irony of colonization, considering that, ââ¬Å"all of us celebrated Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s birthday, but we, the descendants of slaves, knew quite well what had really happenedâ⬠(Kincaid 76). The Antiguan children still celebrate even when they are aware that the British once enslaved them. Annie continues on the topic of colonization as she contemplates Columbus who returned to Spain imprisoned in chains. ââ¬Å"King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had sent [Columbus] back to Spain fettered in chains attached to the bottom of the ship. How I loved this pictureââ¬âto see the usually triumphant Columbus, brought so low, seated at the bottom of a boat just watching things go byâ⬠(Kincaid 78). Annie enjoys seeing Columbus brought so low because he returned to Spain in the way that slaves were sent to the Americas. The phrase, the great man can go nowhere (Kincaid 78) resonates so strongly in her mind that she ââ¬Å"[writes] it out with her fountain penâ⬠(Kincaid 78). This act proves to be a heinous crime, that after the discovery by her teacher, Miss Edwards, ââ¬Å"her whole face was on fire. Her eyes were bulging out of her headâ⬠(Kincaid 81). Miss Edwards is a representation of the English social order and has defined herself according to the rules of this order. Annieââ¬â¢s action against the discoverer of Antiguaââ¬â¢s honor is against Miss Edwardss system of belief so she refers to Annies action as blasphemous. (Kincaid 82). Because Columbuss importance is essential to the colonial system, Annies act not only criticizes him, but also subverts the whole dominant colonial order. For this reason, Miss Edwards sees to it that Annie must be punished. Kincaidââ¬â¢s experiences clearly parallel the experiences of Antigua and its colonization by its British protectorate. Th ey are reflective of her own memories and feelings towards Antiguaââ¬â¢s colonization, and through Annie Johnââ¬â¢s journey, gives insight into how a once controlled culture seeks its independence. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-91138603787497545452020-05-06T21:16:00.001-07:002020-05-06T21:16:36.993-07:00Personal Experience Explore Different Thoughts about... These women learn helplessness and dependency; sometimes these characteristics originate from childhood. According to Dr. Lenore E. Walker, a woman must experience two cycles, before she can be labeled a ââ¬Å"battered womanâ⬠. The two cycles are called the ââ¬Å"cycle of violenceâ⬠. This cycle leads to the feeling that the abuse will never stop. It almost becomes natural. Sometimes the relationships will be calm, and the abuser will apologize for what happened. This part is called the ââ¬Å"honeymoon cycleâ⬠, but at other points in the cycle the tension and arguments just soar all the time (divorcenet.12-3-00). After years, the cycle starts to go quicker. At this point, the woman starts to feel trapped, because she would go through these cycles more than once a day. At some, certain point, she will have to act out in what is legally considered ââ¬Å"self-defenseâ⬠. Stereotypes of battered women will always be around. Many people wonder why donââ¬â¢t the wives or girlfriends just get help?, why donââ¬â¢t they tell someone?, or just get up and leave. People fail to realize that leaving an abusive relationship can make matters worst. Some canââ¬â¢t leave because she is financially dependent or they have children, and/or their mates threaten to kill her and her children or take her children away. A real mother would never leave her children, in any situation. The prosecutors usually always bring up these stereotypes of battered women. In some situations the woman will leave, but staying out is hard for her or he makes it hard for her. Once the woman leaves he will usually do his best to find her and when he does, he threatens her, or may embarrass her, and sheââ¬â¢ll leave with him because of the scene he makes. In addition to all these reasons to why women stay in abusive relationships, is because women lose their self-esteem and eventually donââ¬â¢t have the energy to leave. In order for the Battered Woman Syndrome claim to be used expert testimony is essential. This is needed in order to give matter to the argument that justifies what the woman did. It is also needed because there needs to be an explanation of the Syndrome to juries, in away they can understand. Learned helplessness and other scientific knowledge need to be explained in order for the jury to understand. To understand what the woman is going through, what she was thinking at the time she committed the crime, and that she did it (murder her abuser) it because she honestly felt that it was the only solution in getting the ââ¬Å"cycle of violenceâ⬠. First, the women must show that she is able to prove either through her own testimony or through the testimony of other witnesses that she is a ââ¬Å"battered womanâ⬠. She must then provide proof that the expert who she has chosen is qualified in the field. Some think that the defense based on Battered Woman Syndrome is an insanity defense, because of the experts who are brought in to explain the characteristics of the syndrome, psychologists or psychiatrists. Also because the word ââ¬Å"syndromeâ⬠is often used to describe mental illnesses. ââ¬Å"First her husband, now the courtsâ⬠, is what one of the signs read at a march during the third trial of Idalia Mejia in 1978(Gillespie 165). In addition to the violent husband and the courts filled with prosecutors and confused jurors abuse a woman once she has tried to protect herself, but so do the police. Police officers receive little training in dealing with domestic violence cases. .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .postImageUrl , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:hover , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:visited , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:active { border:0!important; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:active , .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265 .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8826d514fa8c191fcc815f2969478265:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Witchcraft And It's Effects On Society Essay The techniques are usually to defuse the situation. It is one of the fastest known enzymes and its turnover number is 6 million, which means the number of substrate molecules which one molecule of the enzyme turns to products per minute. This can be demonstrated by putting a piece of liver into a beaker of Hydrogen Peroxide, the fizzing shows a demonstration of the enzyme in action. AIMMy aim is to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the enzyme catalase. INVESTIGATIONI am going to investigate the effect of varying the substrate concentration on enzyme catalase. I am going to use 8 different concentrations and record the time taken to collect 20ml of gas in the gas syringe. I will repeat all the 8 concentrations twice so I can see if they match, spot out any anonymous results and also I can work out the average time it takes to produce 20ml of gas at the certain concentrations. I will vary the concentrations by increasing and decreasing the amounts of Hydrogen Peroxide and water. PLANFirst of all I will ensure I have enough enzyme solution for the whole experiments so the enzyme solution is standardised. With the results I get I will try to work out the Vmax. I will do this experiment at room temperature so the enzymes get enough kinetic energy to collide. I will need 80ml of the enzyme solution because I will use 5ml for all of the experiment and I will do 8 different concentrations and I will repeat this concentrations twice so that is 5x8x2= 80. First of all I will set out the equipment as I will show in the diagram then I will cut some pieces of liver, which is the source of the enzyme. Then I will grind the pieces of liver with the mortar and pestle, which will have sand and Di ionised water (which is water with no H ions in it its PH is neutral). The sand will help cut open the cells of the liver. I will take a funnel with glass wool in it, I chose glass wool rather than filter paper because the catalase could have been adsorbed by the filter paper. Then I will add 5ml of the enzyme catalase to the conical flask and for the substrate concentration of 10% I will add 2ml of Hydrogen Peroxide and 18ml of water (18+2= 20, I will always use 20ml) every time I when I will increase the concentration by 10% I will increase the H2O2 by 2ml and decrease the H2O by 2ml. I will time how long it takes to produce 20ml of gas in the gas syringe. I chose the gas syringe rather than to count the bubbles produced in a measu ring cylinder because it is easier to use, the results will be more accurate and the gas syringe reduces the possibility of gas escape. I will tabulate my results and highlight them in some way so they are visible I will interpret my results in to a line graph. I will also added a line of best fit to the results on the graph and with the results I get I will work out the Vmax. Here is a blank copy of my results table, which I fill in later when I get my results. FAIR TESTTo make my experiment a fair test I need to ensure that all the variables must be kept the same for all the experiments except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide. I will accurately measure out the Hydrogen Peroxide and enzyme solution using a pipette and measuring cylinder. I will use glass wool rather than filter paper because if I use filter paper then the catalase could be adsorbed by the filter paper, which will no longer make my experiment a fair test. I will time how long it takes to produce 20ml of gas by using a stopwatch accurately. For each concentration I will make sure that there is no excess catalase or substrate in the measuring cylinders I use by cleaning them. I will hold the rubber bung connecting the conical flask and the gas syringe so it does not open and let out any gas. PREDICTION I predict that the more the concentration of substrate the faster it will be to produce 20ml of oxygen if you increase the concentration there will be a higher chance of collision between the particles, but there will come a point where all the active sites are full and the rate should go constant. Enzymes such as catalase are protein molecules. They are used to speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one particular reaction. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. The graph should look like this, I know this from background scientific knowledge, from my notes and textbooks. SAFETY ASPECTSThe safety precautions that I will consider taking are that I am going to ensure that I wear goggles because Hydrogen is a strong oxidising agent and if it gets into my eyes it could be irritating and eat away at my cornea, corneal bur ns can occur rapidly. I will also make sure that the Hydrogen Peroxide does not come in contact with my clothes or hands so I will wear an apron and gloves if the Hydrogen Peroxide does come in contact with my hands, which will cause whitening of the skin and stinging. I will immediately wash my hands thoroughly with water. Hydrogen Peroxide is a strong deodorizing and bleaching agent. It has a characteristic pungent odor. If anyhow I swallow the Hydrogen Peroxide I will drink water straight away to dilute and immediately contact a physician. If I break any apparatus I will inform the teacher straight away and I will clean the broken apparatus. APPARATUS LIST? Scalpel and chopping board? Pipette? 4 measuring cylinders, (3) 100ml (1) 10ml? Conical flask? Gas syringe? Mortar and pestle? Glass wool? Rubber bung with delivery tube? Retort stand with clamp and boss? Stopwatch? Sand? Spatula? Hydrogen Peroxide? Di ionised water? Source of enzyme (liver)I used these apparatus because it wa s the equipment available and suitable for my experiment. I used the gas syringe rather than to count the number bubbles produced in a measuring cylinder because it is more easier and accurate and it also gives a less possibility of gas escape. I used the stopwatch because it is accurate to measure the time rather than counting the time yourself. I used the spatula to pick up bits of the sand and put in the mortar and pestle in which I was grinding the pieces of liver. I used the scalpel to cut the pieces of the liver and I cut the pieces on the chopping board so I dont cut into the table that I was working on. I used the mortar and pestle to grind the pieces of liver. I used the glass wool rather than filter paper because the catalase could be adsorbed by the filter paper, which will no longer be a fair test. The house on mango street EssayIt is possible to follow the reaction by monitoring the pH of a mixture of milk, lipase and sodium carbonate. A milk with higher lipid content should release a greater number of fatty acids in a given time period and therefore its pH should drop quickest. Method1. Place 10ml fresh milk in a boiling tube (1) and add 5ml of dilute (0.05M) sodium carbonate solution. Place the boiling tube in the water bath to warm to 40C for 5mins. 2. Place 1ml of 5% lipase in a boiling tube (2) and place in the water bath to warm to 40C for 5mins. 3. Set up the datalogging equipment as shown below. 4. Pour the milk with carbonate solution into the warmed enzyme . Shake the boiling tube and return to water bath. 5. Record the change in pH for 8 minutes. 6. Rinse the pH probe in the pH7 buffer solution and repeat experiment with a different milk sample. Bile salts are steroids with detergent properties which are used to emulsify lipids in foodstuff passing through the intestine to enable fat digestion and absorption through the intestinal wall. They are secreted from the liver stored in the gall bladder and passed through the bile duct into the intestine when food is passing through. Biosynthesis represents the major metabolic fate of cholesterol, accounting for more than half of the 800mg/day of cholesterol that the average adult uses up in metabolic processes. By comparison, steroid hormone biosynthesis consumes only about 50 mg of cholesterol per day. Much more that 400 mg of bile salts is required and secreted into the intestine per day, and this is achieved by re-cycling the bile salts. Most of the bile salts secreted into the upper region of the small intestine are absorbed along with the dietary lipids that they emulsified at the lower end of the small intestine. They are separated from the dietary lipid and returned to the liver for re-use. Re-cycling thus enables 20-30g of bile salts to be secreted into the small intestine each day. The most abundant of the bile salts in humans are cholate and deoxycholate, and they are normally conjugated with either glycine or taurine to give glycocholate or taurocholate respectively. The conjugation is important in identifying the bile salt for re-cycling back to the liver. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-9250379990276887892020-04-13T19:07:00.001-07:002020-04-13T19:07:03.704-07:00The Importance of Education in Improving the American Economy Essay Example For Students The Importance of Education in Improving the American Economy Essay As a child, I knew money was scarce. Though my family had one parent and one income, we sufficed. On the news, reporters spoke of the economic downfall. Elementary teachers discussed the economic social ladder and daily statistics about increasing poverty levels. But what is poverty? About two years ago, our financial status began to follow the economic trends. My father could no longer afford rent or groceries for dinner. For months we were living off the few food stamps available to us. This was the most petrifying moment of my life. A question developed that tormented my mind. Will we have food or a house tomorrow? Having the constant fear of living on the streets is deathly terrifying. Various letters appeared on our door demanding evacuation. Nightmares which once tormented my nights had become a reality. Bankruptcy had been an ongoing fear, but this was only half of my anguish. Before this point in my life, I had a definition of poverty. Poverty was achieved by laziness and negligence. After experiencing financial hardship, I discovered how naive and heartless I was towards disparity. Thousands of people in our community are deprived of basic necessities as we speak. We will write a custom essay on The Importance of Education in Improving the American Economy specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Living in alleyways, they strive to find employment, food, or a mere conversation. This is poverty. Yet as these unfortunate individuals stand on street corners wishing for a miracle, we glance at them with callous faces as if they are worthless. I have now experienced the adversity I once criticized. The recent economic stimulus package signed by Obama will initiate an optimistic future for the United States. Several prominent ideas which will influence our economy the most are the housing, tax, and unemployment benefits. These will allow adults o. .cle if one occurs. Fortunately, we are slowly escaping poverty. However, there are many kids out there who have not experienced this; they are in danger of making mistakes which could cause them various months, or dare I say years, of anguish. The youth of this nation have the future government in their hands; we are the foundation of opportunity. By educating this new generation, a bright future will be ahead and a misfortune such as our current foreclosure crisis is less likely to occur. Change will not happen within the next few days, or even weeks; it will take a great deal of time to overcome the financial catastrophe we have endured. A drastic initial amount of money has been spent on individuals in hope of reinitiating the consumer cycle. However, by educating both our citizens and our youth, an even greater amount of potential is in the near future. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-28508843346207762962020-04-12T10:20:00.001-07:002020-04-12T10:20:05.410-07:00Essay Writing Topics - How to Research Common Essay Writing TopicsEssay Writing Topics - How to Research Common Essay Writing TopicsYou might have the task of looking for specific essay writing topics that you can use to write your essays. Are you looking for topics that have not been covered in a high school or college class? What are you looking for in an essay topic that has been presented and talked about in a classroom setting but not being used for the purpose that you have been given? How do you find these subjects?Writing your own academic essay can be quite difficult and a process that will take some time to get right. However, with a little research and planning, it will become easier to write an essay that you can remember and that is of great value to you as well as your future employers. However, it is never too late to start learning about the different topics that you will need to think about before you start to write your academic essay. One of the great ways to find and learn about the different essay topics that are out there is by speaking to your college or high school English department. If you speak to the English department that you are working with, they will be able to direct you to the appropriate faculty member and class for your subject matter. Another way to get your hands on some topics that are not generally used in your area is to talk to your professors and see if they can help you find out about a few topics that might interest you. What you should realize about writing your essay is that each professor and teacher are very much invested in what subject matter they cover. Because of this, you will need to make sure that the essays that you write meet their expectations for the subjects that they teach. You will also want to make sure that you find out about any particular courses or college-level courses that you will be taking when you are planning to attend college. For example, if you are going to be taking a course in political science, there will be several essays that you will have to writ e. If your courses in an English department and you are already thinking about writing about political themes, then you should make sure that you think about which political topics that you will be writing about. If you plan to write about something such as the economy, you will want to check out the economic studies department at your college and make sure that the students in that class are covering some economic subjects that you can use to write about. There are many different types of subject matter that you can choose from when you are researching the topic of your essay. However, you will want to make sure that you choose a topic that is easy to explain and that people will be able to understand. The best way to find out more about the subject is to do a little research and read about it to help you determine if it is something that you might enjoy writing about. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-64268483417636679932020-03-11T15:42:00.001-07:002020-03-11T15:42:05.025-07:00How to Write Press Releases With 21 Examples and 7 TemplatesHow to Write Press Releases With 21 Examples and 7 Templates Every marketer should know how to write an effective press release. Make Sure Your Story Has Value to a Publicationââ¬â¢s Audience If youââ¬â¢re a software company sending a press release to a publication that writes about pick up trucks, why would they run a story about your organization? When determining where to pitch your story, ensure that: Their readership or viewership aligns with your target audience. Do both your audiences care about the same things? Their coverage area aligns with your product or service. Will the publication care about your company? You can do this by reading a few issues of a physical publication, or by spending some time on their website. 3. Follow the Inverted Pyramid This format entails putting your most important information first. Follow this visual guide: 4. Include Useful Quotes One of the most critical parts of your press release is including a quote that writers will be able to pull and use in their own story. Remember, reporters, and writers, are already super busy. The more work that you create for them, the less chance they will have of covering your story. Here's a basic example from Bobcat Company: The quote at the end is clear, and can easily be copied and pasted into a reporter's news coverage. 5. Eliminate Fluff Press releases should always be short and to the point. Reporters and editors are busy people. 6. Follow AP Style Journalists follow AP style, and you should, too. Writing a Press Release in 7 Simple Steps Now you're ready to buckle down and write your release. Follow this process to get the job done. 1. Find Your Angle Every good news story has an angle. An angle is the perspective your story will take. Some common angles are: Local impact. How is your story impacting the local community? Conflict. Is your press release giving another side to a conflict? Progress. Is your press release highlighting progress made towards a certain problem? Drama. Does your press release evoking an emotional response for readers? When constructing your angle, remember the 5 W's: Who is this story about? What is happening? Where is it going on? When will it occur? Why is it important? Try following this template: [WHO: COMPANY] today announced it will [WHAT] at [WHERE] on [WHEN]. The [EVENT/ANNOUNCEMENT] will provide [BENEFIT] for [AUDIENCE]. Writing a press release? Make sure that your angle is well defined.2. Write Your Lede The lead of your press release is the first paragraph that appears underneath your summary bullet points. The most critical information should be in this first paragraph, including: An angle or a hook. This is what will get your audience interested. The 5 W's (as many as are relevant). It's an old school journalism best practice, but it'll make sure your release is informative. A reason for a reporter or editor to care. They get lots of pitches every day. Put them first, and only send something they will be interested in. Here is an example from Doctors Without Borders: This lede includes each of the following: A clear explanation of the 5 Ws. The who (Doctors Without Borders), what (an awareness campaign), when (International Chagas Disease Day), where (Latin America), and why (severe public health issue) are laid out in a logical progression. A hook. Typically, when one hears the phrase "big heart," we think of something positive. However, this campaign uses this turn of phrase to explain the dangers of Chagas disease (heart issues). A reason to care. It's a major health concern, affecting more than 6 million people globally. That certainly sounds relevant. This is a perfect example to emulate when writing ledes for your own releases. Every good press release should have a strong lede. Here's how to write yours:4. Write 2 - 5 Strong Body Paragraphs With Supporting Details The next several paragraphs should tell the complete story (in a concise way). The most important supporting details should be included. Each paragraph should be concise, ideally keeping your release under a page. Recommended Reading: 40 Content Writing Tips to Make You a Better Marketer Now 5. In fact, there are three things you can do to ensure that you have the perfect quote in your press release: What purpose does this quote serve? Is it helping tell the story of your press release? Sound like the person youââ¬â¢re writing the quote for. Donââ¬â¢t use big elegant words if the person youââ¬â¢re writing your quote for doesnââ¬â¢t. Always attribute your quotes. Tell them who is saying what and why. Think about the style and language that your subject would use and once you have two or three potential quotes written, send it to them for feedback. 6. Include Contact Information The people reading your press release need to know who to contact for more information. Include the following information: Point of contact: This should be a name and job title for who to reach. Email address: Give them the best one to reach the preferred point of contact. Phone number: In case they'd like to call, rather than email. You might also include a mailing address. 7. Include Your Boilerplate Copy According to PRowl Public Relations,à a boilerplate is: ââ¬Å"A boilerplate is usually found at the end of a press release, and briefly describes the company or organization related above. The short paragraph consisting of just a few sentences concisely explains the company or organization.â⬠The boilerplate should appear on every release you send. Include the following information: The name of your organization Your mission statement. Founding dates. Company size. A brief statement on what your organization is doing today to fulfill the ideas in your mission statement. Here are a fewà of examples: Apple Boiler Plate Example: Appleà revolutionized personal technology with the introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Perhaps the most pervasive argument against the universal nature of human rights is that of cultural diversity. This assertion is hinged on the assertion that since every nation or society has its distinctive cultural values, a universal approach to rights cannot be applied all around the world. A key issue in the cultural disparity argument stems from the perception that the West differs significantly from other nations, on which it attempts to impose the idea of universal human rights. This notion is perpetuated by the fact that the UN Declaration of Human Rights was adopted when majority of Third World nations had not gained independence from the principally Western colonialists. Universality of rights is therefore perceived as cover for the West to intervene in developing countriesââ¬â¢ affairs, while spreading its individualistic socio-cultural values in otherwise community-oriented societies. In further argument against universality, others posit that ongoing nation-building in developing countries cannot sustain individual-oriented human rights since it is a communal task. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-59655287858088018062020-02-07T22:54:00.001-08:002020-02-07T22:54:02.600-08:00Reflection of slingshot Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsReflection of slingshot - Essay Example In 1930-s many people had their private cars. Most of them were used for family needs. They became important representations of American dream ideology. At the same time, Great Depression and World War II created the situation when many cars were out of use. Adult men had to work and fight leaving their cars to their children. Hard times motivate people to seek for some new ways to entertain. Those times gave the boost to cinematography, music and sport including drag racing. Drag races appeared as a participatory sport organized by those people who wanted to test their cars. Southern California became had perfect condition for drag races. It was a land of opportunities where people moved to start their lives from scratch. It was a land of big deserts where young people had enough space to conduct their illegal hobby. Media reacted to drag races negatively. Local newspapers were focused on road incidents which happened as a result of races stressing their danger for young people. Moreover, drag races were illegal and their participants could be imprisoned if they were caught by the police. Despite their illegal status, drag races were very popular with young people in Southern California. People who took part in drag races tried to organize them better. Location of drag races moved to military locations which were out of use. Airports and military bases became perfect locations for racers. In the end of 1940-s, the attitude to drag races became better. Racers could invite their parents and friends to support them. Local entrepreneurs sold snacks during those events. Timing system and races in pair were introduced to people who took part in races. Orange county airport became the location which held the first official drag races that welcomed spectators. Participants had to pay $2 to take part in the race. Spectators were expected to pay 50 cents to watch the race. It is often said that there is nothing wrong with learning new things, but Shelley makes it a point to prove that wrong. Dr. Frankensteinââ¬â¢s voracious and successful approach to necromancy proves that very distinctly. Though the novel does not explicitly state that there are things best left to higher powers, the novel does highlight, very pointedly, that a man should act as such, and should not interfere with either that which he is not meant to, or that which opposes the natural way of things. Dr. Frankenstein does both. It is not a matter of controversy that humans are not meant to play God, and reanimating a corpse constructed from the remains of various other corpses falls very firmly in the realm of actions classifiable as both unethical and unnatural. Effectively, the entire book may be paraphrased, as ââ¬Å"Dr. Frankenstein was a perfectly cheerful student, until he played God, following which, his entire life crashed around him, and he lost virtually everyone and everything he loved.â⬠Shelley does not explicitly state that there are things solely in the realm of God, but the books makes it clear nonetheless that some things were made to transcend human knowledge, and that violating this law will have natural and terrible consequences. Shelley wishes, then, to paint knowledge as a formidable force that should be approached with intense caution. Her Frankenstein is a warning. Three of the prominent characters in the novel Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein, Robert Walton and the monster, all share a thirst for knowledge that ultimately leads to downfall in one way or another. Shelly, in her novel, portrayed how Victorââ¬â¢s journey to seek knowledge led to a life of misery and sadness. Even upon meeting Walton, Victor says, ââ¬Å"You seek for knowledge and wisdom, as I once did; and I ardently hope that the gratification of your wishes may not be a serpent to sting you, as mine has beenâ⬠(Shelly 62). Although this quote only implies that his downfall was due to the monster, in reality, his downfall began long before even the monster was created, as evidenced by Victorââ¬â¢s (literally) inhumane quest for knowledge. From a very early age, Victor Frankenstein had a thirst for knowledge. He was captivated by the sciences; he spent all his time just studying from the work of the older scientists. In the university, when he was told that all his time spent studying has been a waste, as new discoveries have been made, he became angry. Ironically, his obsession with science became even stronger and he devoted his life acquiring even greater knowledge. This obsession was where it all began. Victorââ¬â¢s quest for knowledge was a selfish quest of sabotage; his obsession to create a life form was so deep that he ignored everyone he knew. This thirst to surge beyond the accepted human limits and access the secret of life led to one disaster after another. Similarly, Robert Walton desires knowledge beyond limits. Waltonââ¬â¢s quest to reach the northernmost part of the earth is similar in spirit to Victorââ¬â¢s quest for the secret of life: both seek ultimate knowledge, and both sacrifice the comfort of the realm of known knowledge in their respective pursuits. When Walton says, ââ¬Å"What may not be expected in a country of eternal light?â⬠(Shelly 50). It becomes certain that Walton is ready to surpass any limit for the pursuit of total knowledge. Light in this context, is a symbol for goodness and knowledge. If we closely examine, we discover that Robert Walton possess the same desires as Victor Frankenstein, and can be addressed as ââ¬Å"a potential Frankenstein, another man . . . seeking out ultimate knowledge by conquering the worldââ¬â¢s uncharted regionsâ⬠(Claridge 85). Victor, seeing Walton having the same thirst, warns him; ââ¬Å"Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allowâ⬠(Shelly 81). Knowledge not only destroys Victor Frankensteinââ¬â¢s life but also of the monster. Firstly, He was the creation of Frankensteinââ¬â¢s desire to gain knowledge. He would have never come to life if Frankenstein had control over his obsession. Secondly, the monster delves deeper into sadness when he acquires knowledge the world has to offer him ââ¬Å"I cannot describe to you the agony that these reflections inflicted upon me; I tried to dispel them, butà sorrow only increased with knowledge. Oh, that I had forever remained in my native wood, nor known nor felt beyond the sensations of hunger, thirst, and heat!â⬠(Shelly 146). If the monster did not have any knowledge, he would have felt none of the emotions or reflections that people have inflicted upon him. Finally, the greatest impact of the monsterââ¬â¢s actions is due to the knowledge that of him alone in the world ââ¬Å"I am an unfortunate and deserted creature, I look around and I have no relation or friend upon earth. These amiable people to whom I go have never seen me and know little of me. I am full of fears, for if I fail there, I am an outcast in the world forever, without any love or affectionâ⬠(Shelly 158), this knowledge, beyond his basic sensations, makes him a so-called ââ¬Å"Monsterâ⬠and the cause of all mayhem. This, conclusively, is Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s severe warning to the reader. It is a strict warning to the reader to remain humane and reasonable in their quest for knowledge. The text, then, also professes a deep romanticism in that it shows, very clearly, that one should not stray from that which is natural. It preaches that things are exactly how they are, but also warns that knowledge is not something to be trifled with. The text also carries with it, a long standing theme of consequences; Victor defied nature and raised the monster, and it then seemed like everything around Victor was dedicated to driving him to depression or death. Eventually, defying nature got the better of him and he died, desolate and alone, away from his home, and nature claimed yet another human that defied it. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-54079361240644871622020-01-21T10:11:00.001-08:002020-01-21T10:11:02.430-08:00Financial Difficulties Facing Power Companies in Brazil :: Energy, electric, UtilitiesDue to the size of the losses and their impact on the income of power distribution utilities, this issue has become a matter of much concern to these enterprises which must estimate them properly and draw up solutions to curb them effectively. Another pressing problem on the power market is payment in arrears . Over the past decade, the capacity to make prompt payment for essential services has been dropping sharply in Brazil, whether they are provided by the Government or by public utilities private enterprises. With rising unemployment and shrinking income, many consumers are forced to postpone payment of their electricity bills, particularly in view of steady tariff increases, which rose an averagea total of 231.24% between 1995 and 2004 . (ANEEL, 2004), well over the inflation rate, as a result, it is estimated that unpaid electricity bills in Brazil reached R$ 3.15bn (US$1.3bn) in 2002. The composition of these overdue payments, as per customer group, shows that R$760mi (US$304mi) was caused by unpaid electricity bills from medium and large clients, supplied with high and medium voltages (Group A); R$1,6bn (US$640mi) corresponding to debt built up by residential consumers, small commercial and industrial companies, much from Government facilities, and street-lighting, all supplied by the low voltage network (Group B); and R$800mi (US$320mi) owed by Governments. AGAIN? WHERE THE GOVERNMENT IS? An important point issue is the strong relatiosnships between electricity losses and unpaid bills. These two phenomena are so closely linked that a reduction in one may prompt an increase in the other. A customer caught stealing power is connected up properly to the grid and is then charged for the stolen power, in addition to a fine, payable in installments. If the costumer fails to pay thiese unpaid electricity billss and/or fails to pay the installmentscharges, the power supply is interrupted after some a short time. A customer without power may well return to stealing, again becoming again a loss problem. This same cycle may also be triggered by unpaid electricity bills: when customers have their power supply cut off because they are unable to pay their bills, they may start to steal through clandestine connections, with similar consequences. The cycle may start with unpaid electricity bills. A customer unable to pay his/her bill has his/her power supply cut off, which ca n lead him/her to steal. In other words, a more severe reaction by public utilities in relation to unpaid electricity bills may have as an unintended and undesirable consequence to turn a defaulters into a ââ¬Å"thievesâ⬠f. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-21608294360703246732020-01-13T06:34:00.001-08:002020-01-13T06:34:05.667-08:00Assessing Contamination Of The Great Lakes Environmental Sciences EssayWorlds are changing the Earth ââ¬Ës environment in dramatic and progressively permeant ways ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . The ever-increasing human population, along with an explosive addition in ingestion, exacerbates the impact on aquatic and tellurian ecosystems as a consequence of land usage from agribusiness and human colony, natural resource usage, transit and diversion, waste from domestic, municipal and industrial development ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . There is now abundant grounds that ecosystems at regional and planetary degrees have become extremely stressed and dysfunctional ( Rapport, Costanza and McMichael 1998 ) . For illustration, the widespread dispersion of man-made chemicals may be changing carnal endocrine and immune systems that are needed for normal growing, development and disease opposition ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . Additionally, decrease in biodiversity could extinguish anchor species, create discontinuities in ecosystem food and energy tracts, and enhance e xposures to important losingss of ecosystem services following anthropogenetic perturbations ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . The services provided by ecosystems are highly of import to human public assistance ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . These stressed, degraded and disrupted ecosystems have and could go on to ensue in dramatic ecological, wellness, economic and societal impacts ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . The Great Lakes constitute the largest organic structure of surface fresh water on Earth and is one of the most valuable natural resources ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . The Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario are freshwater inland seas of huge importance for H2O ingestion, diversion, piscaries, power, transit, and many other utilizations ( EPA, National Water Quality Inventory: Report to Congress 2009 ) . The Great Lakes are besides a major industrial and agricultural part of North America ( EPA, Where Would We Be Without the Great Lakes? 2010 ) . A statement sing the position of the Great Lakes found in the ââ¬Å" National Water Quality Inventory: Report to Congress in 2009 â⬠says: ââ¬Å" Of the eight provinces surrounding the Great Lakes, six reported on the status of their Great Lakes shoreline stat mis. About 1,070 of 5,521 entire Great Lakes shoreline stat mis were assessed in 2004, and of these, 93 % were reported as impaired. The prima causes of damage included PCBs, toxic organics, pesticides, and dioxins â⬠Since the 1970 ââ¬Ës, supervising informations have shown the presence of waterborne toxic chemicals in the biology of the Great Lakes through the procedures of bioaccumulation and bioconcentration ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . The effect of these developments is the beginning for public and scientific concern over how and to what extent the wellness of wildlife and worlds in the Great Lakes basin may be affected by exposure to environmental contaminations ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . Chemical pollution is a job on a planetary graduated table that occurs about everywhere people live ( Keller 2011 ) . Whether a dismissed chemical is harmful to the aquatic environment depends on a figure of factors, including the type of chemical, its concentration, the timing of its release, conditions conditions, and the organisms life in the country ( NOAA 2008 ) . By the mid 1980 ââ¬Ës, over 800 distinguishable chemical substances from these beginnings had been identified in the Great Lakes basin ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . Of these substances, the most relentless and toxic substances are polychlorinated biphenyls ( PCBs ) , dioxins, and furans ; the organochlorine pesticides dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethylene ( DDT ) , toxaphene, mirex, dieldrin, and hexachlorobenzene ( HCB ) , heavy metals methylmercury and alkylated lead ; and benzo [ a ] pyrene, a member of a category of substances known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ( PAHs ) ( International Joint Commission 1987 ) . Datas on chemical concentrations indicate the major burdens of relentless toxic chemicals to the Great Lakes occurred between the 1950s and the 1970s, with peak concentrations happening in the mid 1970s ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . Peoples began to detect sick effects in fish, birds, and mammals, including marks of generative failure, biochemical alterations, inborn deformities, and population diminutions ( World Resource Institute 1998-99 ) . Scientists from NOAA ââ¬Ës Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory explain the consumption of pollutants as follows: foremost, when organic contaminations reach Great Lakes Waterss, they do non readily fade out or organize chemical bonds with H2O molecules, alternatively, they stick ( adsorb ) to ticket organic-rich atoms, microscopic in size, nowadays in the H2O. Next, some atoms settle to the underside going portion of lake deposits, while other atoms remain suspended ; the aquatic animate beings actively feed on both digesti ng bacteriums and other microscopic nutrient beginnings carried on them. Finally, during digestion, animate beings absorb harmful contaminations as the atoms pass through their digestive piece of land. NOAA ââ¬Ës research workers conclude that: ââ¬Å" contaminant exposure is more terrible for benthal ( bottom-dwelling ) animate beings populating in deposits at the lake underside, in add-on to a diet of contaminant-laden nutrient, contaminations can be absorbed across the animate being ââ¬Ës tegument, or through their gills as they extract dissolved O from H2O. â⬠With continued exposure over the class of an animate being ââ¬Ës life, contaminant concentrations accumulate within the organic structure, if the animate being is eaten by a marauder, its organic structure load of contaminations is transferred, get downing the procedure of biomagnifications of contaminations up the nutrient concatenation. Humans who consume Great Lakes fish are besides at hazard ( NOAA 2005 ) . Biomagnifications of heavy metals is a concern in the Great Lakes, motivating the International Joint Commission to help the United States and Canada to implement the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement in 1972 ( International Joint Commission 1987 ) . Heavy metals such as lead, quicksilver, Zn, and Cd, are deposited with natural deposits in the undersides of Waterss where they dissolve. ( Keller 2011 ) . Most heavy metals were straight discharged into the Great Lakes from coal fired power workss, and municipal and medical waste incineration installations ( International Joint Commission 1987 ) . Heavy metal residue which becomes airborne is redeposited from the ambiance through rainfall ( Keller 2011 ) . Of greatest concern is the extremely toxic organic compound, methylmercury, which forms in rivers and lakes when micro-organisms metabolize metallic quicksilver. This toxic signifier of quicksilver so accumulates in fish and when ingested causes quicksilver poisoning in worlds ( World Resource Institute 1998-99 ) . Non point beginning pollution is caused by rainfall or snowmelt which carries pollutants such as fertilisers, weedkillers and pesticides from agricultural and residential countries ; oil, lubricating oil and toxic chemicals from urban overflow ; deposit from building sites, forest lands and gnawing stream Bankss ; salt from irrigation patterns and acerb mine drainage from abandoned mines ; bacteriums and foods from farm animal, pet wastes, and defective infected systems and deposits them into lakes and rivers ( EPA, What is Non-Point Source Pollution 1994 ) . Acid mine drainage is the consequence of sulphides ( discarded from mining operations ) which oxidize in the presence of H2O and micro-organisms to organize sulphuric acid ( H2SO4 ) ( Colmer and Hinkle 1947 ) . This acerb H2O is highly toxic to workss and animate beings in aquatic ecosystems and can potentially mobilise other harmful chemicals ( Keller 2011 ) . Arsenic is besides a extremel y toxic natural metal which besides has industrial and commercial utilizations in pesticides, weedkillers, antifungals, algaecides, wood preservatives, coal-tar, and pigment ( EPA, Where Would We Be Without the Great Lakes? 2010 ) . Most arsenic originates from atmospheric emanations from smelters, coal-burning power workss, and arsenical weedkiller sprays ; from H2O contaminated by mine shadowings, smelter wastes, and natural mineralization ; and particularly from the ingestion of Marine biology ( Eisler 1988 ) . In Eisler ââ¬Ës study to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, most research workers agree on the undermentioned points: ( 1 ) arsenous anhydride may be absorbed by consumption, inspiration, or through pervasion of the tegument or mucose membranes ; ( 2 ) cells accumulate arsenic by utilizing an active conveyance system usually used in phosphate conveyance ; ( 3 ) arsenicals are readily absorbed after consumption, most being quickly excreted in the piss during the first few yearss, or at most a hebdomad ; effects seen after long-run exposure are most likely the consequence of uninterrupted day-to-day exposure, instead than that of bioaccumulation ( Eisler 1988 ) . Nitrogen and P used in agribusiness to fertilise Fieldss creates a procedure known as ââ¬Å" eutrophication â⬠, where run-off of these inordinate foods enter waterways, increasing works life ( typically algae blooms ) which cover the Waterss surface barricading sunshine to workss below while devouring O as they decompose ; ensuing in the decease of fish and aquatic animate beings ( Keller 2011 ) . Biological pollution has become the greatest concern for the Great Lakes. Waterborne human diseases such as cholera, typhoid infections, hepatitis, and dysentery, are the consequence of hapless H2O sanitation. Indeed, several billion people are exposed to and about 2 million people will decease from these diseases each twelvemonth in developing states ( Keller 2011 ) . Cholera, which infects imbibing H2O, can be found in aquatic systems where it remains hibernating in phytoplankton and zooplankton ( Rapport, Costanza and McMichael 1998 ) . Natural jeopardies such as temblors, inundations and hurricanes can do exacerbate eruptions of these waterborne diseases ( Keller 2011 ) . Other environmental conditions that cause algal blooms, such as eutrophication from nitrate and phosphate overflow, and the proliferation of the zooplankton can besides increase the spread of cholera into human populations ( Rapport, Costanza and McMichael 1998 ) . Another important beginning of biological taint occurs when a installation discharges pollution straight into waterways at a peculiar ââ¬Å" point â⬠along its shore through a pipe or channel and hence considered ââ¬Å" point beginning of pollution â⬠( Salzman and Thompson 2010 ) . This includes sewage intervention workss and industrial installations such as oil refineries, mush and paper Millss, chemical, electronics and car makers ( NOAA 2008 ) . Additionally, there are installations that do non dispatch their wastes straight into a waterway but alternatively empty their wastes into the local sewerage system ( Salzman and Thompson 2010 ) . These sewage intervention workss treat human wastes and direct the treated wastewater to a watercourse or river ( NOAA 2008 ) . During periods of heavy rainfall, sewer systems can be overwhelmed, ensuing in the release of natural sewerage from combined sewer systems designed to roll up both storm H2O and healthful effluent ( EPA, Great Lakes Strategy 2002 ) . Separate healthful sewer systems can besides see untreated discharges related to wet conditions events. These can be caused by inordinate influx and infiltration, unequal care, and deficient moisture conditions conveyance capacity ( EPA, Great Lakes Strategy 2002 ) . Sanitary Sewer Overflows ( SSOs ) and untreated Combined Sewer Overflows ( CSOs ) can incorporate pathogens that lead to beach closings and human wellness concerns, every bit good as O demanding substances that can take to low dissolved O degrees ( EPA, Great Lakes Strategy 2002 ) . During these events, the biochemical oxygen-demanding waste overpowers the Waterss natural cleansing map ( Keller 2011 ) . Possibly the greatest concern of the twenty-first century is the debut and spread of invasive species which threaten the Great Lakes ( International Joint Commission 2002 ) . The primary beginning of aquatic invasive species comes from ships ââ¬Ë ballast H2O which they use to assist stabilise them at sea ( Potter n.d. ) . The debut of a individual species can do a sudden and dramatic displacement in the full ecosystem ââ¬Ës construction ( EPA, Great Lakes Strategy 2002 ) . New species can significantly alter the interactions between bing species ( and between those species and their inanimate environment ) , making ecosystems that are unstable and unpredictable ( International Joint Commission 2002 ) . The Asiatic Carp consume immense sums of the same nutrient eaten by native fishes, sharply out-competing and finally displacing them wholly ( Potter n.d. ) . Even the tiniest microscopic being found in ballast H2O can take clasp and do a important perturbation in the Great Lakes ( Potter n.d. ) . In each of these instances, harm occurred because native species and ecosystems were non capable of defying infection, infestation, predation or competition from the foreigner species ( International Joint Commission 2002 ) . Water is the most valuable resource we have, indispensable for life on Earth, and we have earnestly diminished the ability of these ecosystems for which we rely on. The human population growing has mostly contributed to the debasement and loss of H2O resources and ecosystems ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . Viewed as technological admirations, there was really small apprehension of the impact of man-made compounds and pesticides on the environment or human wellness ( Salzman and Thompson 2010 ) . Scientific grounds has helped exemplify some of the human and ecological costs of environmental debasement ( Vasseur, et Al. 2002 ) . Today, certain species of fish in the Great Lakes still have contaminations at high concentrations ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . Impacts of exposure to the same contaminations show an increased hazard of neurological and generative disfunction, birth defects, and malignant neoplastic disease ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . In 1969, the flickers that set the contamin ated Cuyahoga River on fire besides enkindled utmost public consciousness and concern for the environment ( Salzman and Thompson 2010 ) . Subsequently, in 1972, the Clean Water Act[ 1 ]was passed, modulating discharges of pollutants into Waterss and established H2O quality criterions ( EPA, History of the Clean Water Act 2010 ) . Though the Clean Water Act[ 2 ]and subsequent Amendments in 1977[ 3 ]would ensue in dramatic decrease of chemical contaminations, such as DDT and PCBs, farther decreases of pollutants will be much more hard to decide ( Tremblay and Gilman 1995 ) . Protecting natural resources and the ecosystems they support will go on to be a planetary concern for future coevalss. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-80235733028576865412020-01-05T02:58:00.001-08:002020-01-05T02:58:04.002-08:00Internet Harassment The Flip Side of Internet Fame In the article The Flip Side of Internet Fame by Jessica Bennett, Internet harassment is thoroughly made aware to inform active social network users of its solemnity. Real life scenarios of people who suffered from public humiliation or social desecration are presented. Bennett makes her argument conclusive by addressing her audiences pathos and ethos appeal, sourcing credible individuals throughout the article and stressing the agony and ignominy that the listed individuals perceived. Furthermore, the author demonstrates how critical it is to be conscious about the possibility of not recovering from a fatal encounter on a social network and also raises the question: ââ¬Å"Whats to stop a person from posting whatever he wants about you, if heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Adding on, a student from Lewis and Clark University was even labeled as a rapist after another individual publicly accused him of sexually assaulting another student. This allegation of the victim led to the destr uction of his stable reputation. Today, in a Google search, anyone can input his name ââ¬Å"and the first entry has the word ââ¬Å"rapistâ⬠â⬠(115). The reader is somewhat forced to posses some scent of solicitude when realizing the embarrassment these individuals ached upon. Bennetts firm desire to inform her audience of such petrifying yet valid truths of public shaming, urges the reader to question whether or not Internet fame is a burden. Along with her informing situations, Bennett overawes her audience by encrypting her article with credible individuals making it obliging to appeal to the readers ethos appeal. Introduced in the article, Jim Cohen is an ethicist from Fordham University School of Law in New York. One logical point he makes is that the ââ¬Å"anonymity of the Net encourages people to say things they normally wouldntâ⬠(114). Oedipusââ¬â¢ cowardice and his ignorance are what caused his downfall. In this sense, he is responsible for what happens and guilt of the crimes that he committed. This is further strengthened by the fact that if he was not guilty, he was not supposed to have attempted to run away. This is further reflected by Tiresiasââ¬â¢ phrase to Oedipus, ââ¬Å"I say that you slew the man whose slayer you seek. â⬠Oedipus is indeed guilty of killing his father. Determining the innocence or guilt of Oedipus, one must analyze the state or options he had while he chose to commit the crimes. The first point is that his conscience was very clear that he was taking away the life of a man. This action only is enough to indict him as being guilty of murder. Furthermore, his conscience haunts him, and he tries to place the blame off the murder on Creon and Tiresias. It eventually turned out that the one who crossed his path was his father. However, on the issues of marrying his mother, it can be justifiable that it was not his fault for it is something that he lacked knowledge about. It was not wrong for him to claim his prize for correctly answering the sphinxââ¬â¢s query. This was the intervention of fate, and he cannot be blamed for committing incest. He did not act in a criminal manner hence he is free from the responsibility. Oedipus is completely innocent on marrying his adoptive mother. Jocasta got detached from Oedipus when he was at the tender age. The fact that Oedipus married her i s a mere coincidence and not Oedipuss making. Oedipus solved the riddle given by Sphinx and the Sphinx decided to kill herself by throwing herself on a rock: ââ¬Å"She threw herself upon the rocks and perishedâ⬠. After that, Oedipus was made the King by Thebans who also gave him Jocasta as a wife to be Queen. At this point, Oedipus never knew that Jocasta was his biological mother. This openly proves the innocence of Oedipus in marrying his mother. The queen herself has the belief that fate cannot be changed. This is exhibited when she says, "Why should anyone in this world be afraid because fate rules us anywayâ⬠¦" (Sophocles, 1951. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7571667650515865235.post-58915537562248783422019-12-19T19:11:00.001-08:002019-12-19T19:11:02.787-08:00Supporting Prayer in Public Schools Essay - 1078 Words ââ¬Å"Our Fatherâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Denied For centuries, the debate has existed whether or not to allow prayer in public schools. Many Americans feel it is not right of the schools to teach religion. With all the diversity associated with the United States, public schools cannot select one standard religion to practice, due to the cultural and religious differences in the country. Not only are schools the storm center of controversy involving religious differences, they are the principal institution charged with transmitting the identity and mission of the United States from one generation to the next. If we fail in our school policies and classrooms to model and to teach how to live with differences, we endanger our experiment in religious liberty and ourâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Prayer should be recited only in the privacy of oneââ¬â¢s own head or home. To allow individual prayer at oneââ¬â¢s own choice is legal. To mandate standard prayer is illegal. The good thing about t his is one can choose to pray, or not, to whatever God they choose. Therefore someone praying to Allah, Buddha, or Satan cannot require a Christian or a Jew to participate. Atheists have the right to choose not to participate. A teacher or a government official cannot stop someone from praying silently. Public schools are for all children, regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Schools are supported by all taxpayers. The U.S. Supreme Court has replaced freedom of religion, guaranteed by the Constitution, for freedom from religion. To ban school prayer diminishes the religious freedom of students who would like to pray and forces them to act according to the dictates of a non-religious minority. School prayer would result in many societal benefits. The public school system is tragically disintegrating as evidenced by the rise in school shootings, increasing drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, and HIV transmission. School prayer can help combat these issues, would instill a sen se of morality and is desperately needed to protect our children. The issues of prayer in the school system used to be on the back burner but now it has been moved upstage, front and center. The potential for damage to historical monuments has already been realized. Some damage, such as from wind or rain, is unavoidable. However, pollution contributes additional risk factors that can increase the level of destruction. The effects may be minor, such as a blackening of the surface of monuments due to dust. Other impacts can have permanent consequences. Significance 1. Pollution negatively impacts historical monuments and buildings around the world, from the Acropolis in Greece to the Americas own Lincoln Memorial. The threat is in the risk of losing these irreplaceable structures forever. Many of these monuments have cultural and aesthetic value that is beyond price. Acid Rain 2. One of the more destructive forms of pollution is acid rain. Acid rain occurs when fossil fuel emissions containing sulfur dioxide combine with moisture in the air to form acidic precipitation. When acid rain falls on historical monuments of limestone or marble, a chemical reaction takes place which has a corrosive effect on these structures. The reaction dissolves the material, leading to permanent damage. Global Warming 3. According to the National Climatic Data Center, global temperatures have risen during the past century at a rate of 0. 11 degrees Fahrenheit per decade. The concern with historical monuments lies in the temperature impacts on the chemistry. Heat acts as a catalyst, speeding the rate of chemical reactions. The fate of historical monuments becomes more uncertain, and the urgency to take action increases. Global warming occurs when greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide trap radiant heat at the earths surface, which causes temperatures to rise. Contributing Factors 4. Other factors contribute to the rate of damage to historical monuments. An increase in humidity provides the necessary environment for corrosive chemical reactions in the absence of rain. Likewise, changes in sun radiation can temporarily raise temperatures on the surface of monuments, mimicking the effects of global warming on a specific site. Prevention/Solution 5. Fortunately, the levels of atmospheric sulfur dioxide have declined in recent years, mitigating some effects of pollution on historical monuments. According to the U. S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the United States saw more than a 70-percent reduction in these levels from 1980 to 2008. Other solutions, such as limiting vehicle traffic near historical monuments, may also lessen the impact of pollution. A 1995 study in the journal Science of The Total Environment found that such measures provided an economical as well as a reliable way to curtail pollution on the Arch of Titus in Rome. ognoesuppren1975http://www.blogger.com/profile/04173864022662663753noreply@blogger.com0
